Awarded Licentiate of the National Photographic Society on November 25th 2011.
I am Tommy Cochrane LNPS.
My interest in Photography started when a neighbour let me borrow his Zenit E camera, I was 11 years old at the time. The old man who taught me about the technical bits of Photography and also taught me how to develop images in the Dark Room. Learning to old way was a great advantage, I think I understand a lot more about Photography and the propagation and properties of light because of the way I learned.
Through my teenage years, twenties and thirties, I continued this as a hobby although not in digital format. Olympus OM1 and OM10 SLR cameras where my choice during this time.
My wife bought me a “digital” SLR camera in 2006 as a Father’s day gift. I think she wanted me to move with the times. So I was forced to learn more about Digital photography. I attended night classes at West Lothian College, Livingston for a year to learn this.
Due to personal family circumstances I had to leave my employment as I could no longer work away from home, so I decided that I would use my passion for Photography and change my profession.
Well aware that I could be responsible for Weddings, as well as other one off important events I decided to attend Motherwell College, Lanarkshire, Full Time for a year to make sure I knew the trade before turning Professional.
I was very lucky to be taught by Lewis Napier a superb Wedding and Sports Photographer and Ronald O’Donnell, an International acclaimed artist who uses Photography as a medium to express his Art.
Having attended for a year I received a HNC in Photography and was delighted with my grade A pass.
On leaving college I invested a lot of money in professional Olympus Cameras and lenses.
Studio work is undertaken using a Mamiya Medium format Digital Camera as well as Elemental Studio Lighting.
Photo Shotts is my trading name. Shotts has two t's as it is the name of the Town in Lanarkhire that I'm based in.
I have been lucky enough to have had photos printed in the Scotsman Newspaper (as a Freelance Photographer) I regularly submit work to the Hub Newspaper (Hamilton, Uddingston and Blantyre) and also it sister Publication, The Wishaw Hub.
Other Clients include Alex Neil MSP (Minister for Infrastructure and Capital Investment)
Bells Food Group (commissioned to produce images for Scot Hot food fair)
Poundland Stores Ltd.
Also I volunteer my photographic services to McMillian Cancer support.
Now you know me a little better I hope you will put your trust in me to produce amazing images for you.
